Dear Diary – Chapter 1

Today was a good day.

Leanna woke up at 2 in the morning wanting to ‘potty’! I woke up to her screaming bloody murder at the top of her lungs and it took my groggy brain a couple of minutes before I lunged out of bed and tried to tip toe out of our room in an attempt to be quiet. I failed. Miserably.

Aria is crying now and my husband is desperately trying to shush her before she’s too awake to fall back to sleep. You let her cry for too long and she figures out that though it’s still night time, she’s now too excited to go back to sleep! It’s all about timing, folks.

It’s 3am and after cleaning out her bowels, Leanna now wants to do her puzzle! After multiple threats to confiscate her toys if she didn’t go back to sleep and numerous attempts made by her to disobey me, she finally gives in. She curls in to the ‘c’ shape of my body and falls asleep! Phew!

It’s the usual school run the next morning! Amidst the chaos of getting Leanna ready, my one year old (who has recently discovered how liberating walking can be!) decides to open out one of the kitchen shelves and take out every single utensil that was within her reach! So I’m now playing hop scotch on the floor while trying to convince my pre-schooler to finish her breakfast…who then insists on a glass of water which promptly slips from her hand in her hurry to get as far away from me as she can!

I have Aria’s bath ready. Just the right temperature with her soap and shampoo close enough for me to reach for! I run to the kitchen for a millisecond to check on dinner and when I return, the bath water looked…well, there was a layer of slime on the top! I looked around and caught Leanna standing behind the door with a cheeky grin on her face hiding something behind her back.

My bottle of sunscreen- the contents of which now non-existent had found its way into Leanna’s list of ‘things to destroy’…along with the unusable bath water!

Today was a good day.

My kids are alive and my sanity (though still hanging by a thread!) is still intact!

Until chapter 2, Sayonara! 🤟🏼
